Laryngo-Tracheal Stenosis

Laryngo-Tracheal Stenosis means abnormal narrowing of main wind pipe or central air passage.


Nomenclature :-
Depending on the site of narrowing, different nomenclatures are used. For example, if the narrowing is at the level of vocal folds, then it is known as "Glottis Stenosis". If the narrowing is below the vocal folds, then it is known as "Subglottic Stenosis". If the narrowing is in trachea, then it is called "Tracheal Stenosis"

1. Thyroid gland enlargement
2. Trauma to Larynx or Trachea
3. Prolonged intubation
4. Bilateral cord palsy
5. Congenital anomalies like Laryngeal Atresia, Laryngeal Web, Subglottic Haemangioma, Tracheomalacia
6. Benign tumors like carcinoid tumors
7. Some infections like Epiglottis, Diptheria etc
8. Malignant lesions of Larynx or throat cancers, Thyroid cancers

1. Endoscopic balloon dilatation
2. Laser surgery in some selected cases only
3. Tracheal resection and anastomosis
